Cear'Mr. Ferguson:
Ey letter dated January 8, 1981 (Serial No. 009), you requested that the Virginia Electric and Power Company be excluded from submitting the State of Maryland Emergency Plan as part of the North Anna Power Station Emergency Plan.
The bases given for your request are that the North Anna Power Station 50 mile EPZ intrudes only 12 miles into the State of Maryland and is sparsely populated with less than 10,000 residents. The area in question is approx-imately 80 percent forest with only 10 percent devoted to agriculture.
- Also, cased on meterological data, the wind from the direction of the North Anna Fower Station to this area occurs only 0.5 percent of the year and calculated worst-case radioactive doses to this area are well within the limits of the Fratection Action Guides.
',.e have reviewed your request and have given due consideration to the justifications and: discussions you presented in your. letter. Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.33(g), we conclude that your request to exclude the State of Maryland Emergency Plan is appropriate and that such exclusion will have r.o undue effect on the health and safety of the public. We therefore approve your request.
Sincorely, l
