Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
PHIPPS BEND NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 - REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY - RPV SHROUD HEAD AND MOISTURE SEPARATOR ASSEMBLY FIRE (NCR PBNP 106)
Initial notification of the subject deficiency was made to NRC-0IE, Region II, Inspector R. W. Wright on June 13, 1980. The first interim rport was submitted on July 14, 1930.
In compliance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR Part 50, this is the second interim report on the subject deficiency. TVA anticipates transmitting a final report on or before December 19, 1980.
TVA and GE analyses of samples of material from the subject RPV shroud head and moisture separater asssembly have disclosed no evidence of sensitization. Therefore, no tubes will have to be replaced. A manual and steam cleaning method for removal of contaminants has been proposed by GE and is being evaluated by TVA.
The only item remaining unresolved is the acceptance criteria to be used.
If you have any questions, please call Jim Demer at FTS 857-20?4 l
