Dear Mr. Engelken:
Docket No. 50-206 Valve Discrepancies We have reviewed all valves installed at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in accordance with the " Directorate of Regulatory Operations Bulletin No. 74-1. "
Our review indicates that two (2)
No. S-350 WDD, 2-inch double disc gate valves manufactured by the Darling Valve and Manu-facturing Company are installed at the San Onofre Unit 1 facility.
These valves, designated CV-530 and CV-531, function as block valves in the pressurizer pressure relief lines and are normally open. To date there have been no difficulties with either of these valves.
Routine maintenance of these valves, consisting of close visual inspection and repacking, is accomplished during each refuel-l ing outage. During the 1973 refueling, both valves were completely disassembled, inspected and the internals showed no abnormal wear or indications of distress. All seating surfaces were polished and new bonnet gaskets installed. The valves were repacked, stroked and the position indication adjusted. No further maintenance was necessary and both valves continue to function satisfactorily.
We have no valves manufactured by the Walworth Company similar to those described in your Bulletin 74-1.
Sincerely, h^
