%n l' February 11, 1974-Docket No. 50-133 Pacific Gas and Electric Cm:pany 4

i ATEh It. Frederick T. Searls Vice President and General Counsel 77 Beale Street San Francisco, California 94106 Gentleen:

F0 Bulletins 73-3 and 74-3 and a letter from Donald J. Skovholt, Assistant Director for Operating Reactors, sunmarized background infomation on defective hydraulic shock suppmssors (snubbers) and described required inspection programs. It has come to our attention that oil addition fittings (e.g., Alemite fitting) used on snubbers contain seal naterials vthich may deteriorate in a high tecperature environment and cause the loss of hydraulic fluid.

Replacement seals for these fittings nay not nomally j

be included in standard repair IcLts.

Oil addition fittings should be carefblly inspected during future snubber s rieillance and renewed as appropriate.

Sincerely, g
