Dear Mr. Mattimoe:
We have reviewed your letters dated June 15,1979, July 27,1979 and August 13, 1979 on the above subject relating to our I&E Bulletin 79-13 on feedwater pipe cracks in regards to Rancho Seco Unit No.1.
Based on this review, we have concluded that it is highly unlikely that your facility will experience feedwater pipe cracks similar to those observed at other facilities. Therefore, the augmented inspections as required under I&E Bulletin 79-13 and 79-13(2) may be discontinued. How-ever, the elimination of the augmented inspection program does not relieve you of the inspections required under the ASME Code Section XI for Class 2 components for the emergency feedwater system.
Enclosed is our Safety Evaluation Report concerning this matter.
