UPDATE - RESUMPTION OF CURRENTLY HALTED CONSTRUCTION AT THE SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT, DOCKET N0. 50-498; 50-499 By letter dated November 19, 1980, Houston Lighting and Pcwer Company (HL&P) has requested limited restart of ASME safety-related welding.
Equal priority will be given to the re-examination and repair of ASME welds made prior to April 30,1980, and to the naw production welding to cemence on November 24, 1980. The request for new production welding is specific to site fabrication shop welding to include socket welding of small bore pipe spools, butt welding large bore piping up to_3/4" wall thickness (Class 3 cnly) and fabrication of hanger and pipe supports per ASME Subsection NF.
Field welding is limited to the Component Cooling Water System in Cubicle 3J of the Unit 1 Mechanical Electrical Auxiliary Building.
Based on Region IV inspectors' review of completed corrective action in accordance.
with the response to the Show Cause Order, the resumption of ASME welding is being allowed, on a limited basis, as requested by HL&P.
A press release was made on November 21, 1980, by NRC.
Site construction progress is currently reported as 56% for Unit 1 and 20% for Unit 2.
