O This report covers the operation of the Yankee Atomic Electric Company at Rowe, Massachusetts for the month of January,1971.
During the period, plant load varied between 183 7 MWe and 185.0 MWe as the circulating water inlet temperature fluctuated only between 39 F and 36 F.
The first, Core IX vapor container air charge surveillance j
period continued through the report period.
Leakage of air during the period was normal.
Plant Abnormal Occurrences There were no plant abnormal occurrences durin6 the report period.
Plant Load Reductions 2
January 6 (11h0-1315):
Load reduction to 140 MWe for throttle valve exercising.
January 15 (1200-1230):
Load reduction to 177 MWe for control va]ve exercising.
[
January 22 (1200-1230):
Load reduction to 177 MWe for control valve r
exercising.
l l
t January 27 (1900-19h0):
Load reduction to lho MWe due to 115 KV line disturbances.
January 28 (1145-1230):
Load reduction to 177 MWe for control valve exercising.
Plant Shutdowns There were no plant shutdowns during the report period.
Plant Maintenance The following is a list of pertinent maintenance items performed uy the plant staff during the month of January, 1971.
1.
The No. 1 and No. 3 charging pumps were repacked. Two refurbished plungers were installed in the No. 3 pump.
2.
A new pinion was installed in the turbine turning gear assembly.
3.
Cleaning and tolerance gauging of pitch diameter of the spare set of reactor head to veseel closure studs was performed during the pe.-iod.

Chemistry The main coolant boron concentration was reduced from 1363 ppm to 1178 ppm during the period to compensate for core depletion.
(
)
The main coolant pH averaged 5.10 during the period.
The main coolant beta-gamma specific activity and crud level averaged 1.25 x 10-1 ue/ml and 0.06 ppm, respectively.
During the report period main coolant tritium increased fron.
2.33 ue/ml to 3.91 ue/ml.

The iodine-131 specific activity averaged 5.87 x 10 ue/ml and O
the iodine 131/133 atomic ratio averaged 1.81 indicating the presence of minor fuel defects.-
