INTRODUCTION This final report, submitted in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e),
~
1 covers the resolution of a problem regarding a potential bolt head-4 pipe clamp interference which could hinder the full function of Bergen-Paterson (B-P) pipe support strut assemblies containing Pacific Scientific mechanical shock arrestors.
This deficiency was initially reported by B-P in a 10CFR Part 21 report to the NRC Region I Office of Inspection and Enforcement datsIJune 20, 1980.
Union Electric provided verbal notification to NRC Region III on July 2, 1980 after receipt of a letter from B-P listing a number of affected assemblies that purportedly had been shipped to Callaway.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFICIENCY A complete description of the deficiency is contained in the above mentioned 10CFR Part 21 report submitted by B-P.
ANALYSIS OF SAFETY IMPLICATIONS The interference condition identified by B-P could have inhibited pipe movement required by design and caused overstressing of piping and supports with adverse safety significance.
CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN By letter to Bechtel Power Corporation dated August 14, 1980 B-P advised that all assemblies for Callaway Unit 1 were i
corrected prior to shipment.
