The responsibility for maintenance and calibration of radioactive effluent monitors should be shared by the instrumentation and radiation protection groups. Chances possibly affecting system efficiency should arise from a, joint evaluation of the possible e f fects.

(a)

Channes in process / effluent monitor systens affecting syste i response (e.g. detector replacenents) should be documented in d? tail.

(C)

A retrospective analysis should be made af the prinary calibration and instrument maintenance check data to obtain a correlaticq hetween the external calibration check snurce and the

'prinary calibration. Ccerection for decay of the cesium-137 ct cck source should t'e included in this analysis.

IN (9)

Procecu; e S-II-1.7 should he rewritten and updated to ' properly Werence source details and precedures involved.

ITB'4 (Continued) rur response to the above was as follows:

PESPritSE (3) (4) (5) (5) The procedures governing naintenance, calibration, chances of radioactive effluent.conitors will be revised by April 1,1941 to include a sharing of responsibilities between the Instrunentation and Padiation Protection Department, control of changes involving system responses and efficiency and to include proper reference source details. A retrospective analysis of primary calibration and instrurent maintenance check data to obtain a correlation between the' external calibration check source and the orinary will be completed by April,1981.

In renard to the above response, procedure S-II-1.7 has beea revised and was approved by the On Site Review Connittee on l'ay 8,1981.

This procedure now addresses the oncerns covered under " Detailed Findings" Iten:

a, (3). (A) and (6) above. Tnis procedure will be available for review during future conpliance inspections.

A research of available data is being conducted to meet the requirements of (5).

It is expected that this analysis will be conpleted by f%y ?9,19A1. Pesults of this analysis will also be nade available for review and connent during future conpliance. inspections.

01 ease contact re should you need further infernation concerning this natter.
