Mr. B. J. Youngblood, Chief Licensing Projects Brar.ch No. 1 Re: McGuire Nuclear Station D'

Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370

Dear Mr. 1)enton:

We have reviewed the Equipment Evaluation Report transmitted by Mr. R. L. Tedesco's letter of April 3, 1981. The potential deficiencies identified in this report in-volve primarily documentation discrepancies brought about by escalated require-ments rather than any equipment deficiencies. Having reviewed these items, we conclude that the McGuire design continnes to be in compliance with General De-sign Criterion 4 and that McGuire can operate safely at full power. All of these documentation discrepancies are expected to be resolved by June 30, 1982.

Supplementing our October 14, 1980 submittal regarding aquipment qualification, the modification to the Valcor solenoid valve operators identified in Appendix A of the Equipment Evaluation Report has been completed. For additional infor-mation, refer to McGuire Report No. SD 369/80-18, 370/80-13, dated October 30,

'.980 and supplement dated December 17, 1980, filed pursuant to 10CFR50.55e and Duke Power Company's response to IE Bulletin 80-23 dated January 21, 1981.

If you have additional questions regarding this matter, please advise.

Ve f truly yours, Ona
