We have reviewed the foundation conditions for the Greene County Nuclear
)
Power Plant through Supplement 18 and find them to be satisfactory subject i
to the following comments:
Compaction specifications mentioned in paragraph 2 5 4.5 a.
(pages 2.5-63, 64 ) state that cohesionless materials adjacent to Category I structures "shall have a relative density of at least 75 percent..
. or 95 percent compaction ( AST!4 Std D 1557), whichever is greater." We would prefer to have this read "shall have a relative density of 85 percent.
or 95 percent compaction ( AST!4 D 1557), whichever is greater.
For this com-paction, no more than 10 percent of the control tests shall be less than 85 percent relative density and none shall be less than 75 percent relative density." However, since this backfill is to be used only adjacent to, but not under these structures, the specification as stated is acceptable.
b.
The number of density control tests to be performed during construc-tion has not been specified but should be for the benefit of those responsi-ble for quality control.
This completes our review of foundation conditiene for the Creene County Nuclear Power Plant.
