Dear Sir:

g7,/

,'4 f Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit II (TMI-2)

Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 Three Mile Island Groundwater Monitoring Program The following gro'mdwater monitoring data are actached:

1.

Cocputer tables of all tritium data up to and including January 28, 1981, 2.

Co=puter tables of ga==a scan data up to and including February 25, 1981, 3.

Individual computer graphs of tritium concentration for each well (these graphs now have the same concentration and time scales),

4.

A graph showing the gn==a scan results for Monitoring Well MW-2, and 5.

A composite drawing showing all well locations v4* h a graph of the tritium concentration for each well.

In future reports, we also plan to provide well water level data in a

=anner similar to that of the tritium data.

There were no substantial changes in the tritium concentrations over the reporting period. However, tritium concentrations continue to trend down in MW-2 and up in MW-3.

This most likely indicates an area g

stablization af ter the extended pump testing on MW-2 in August and M

Septemeber of 1980.

Ar * -

The ga==a scan data for the MW-2 sa=ple of February 11, 1981 showed j

higher cesiu=-134/137 values than previously =easured.

The presence f

'J of cobalt-60, which was also detected for the first time, indicatas

[

[

that the source of conta=ination is the SWST. Subsequent saples taken on February IS and 25 1981 show reduced levels of cesiu= and cobalt (see attached graph). We are continuing to evaluate this behavior
