Subject:
SEP Topic IV-2, Reactivity Control Systems Design and Protection Agains t Single Failures
Dear Sir:
Re ference (b) reques ted in formation as part of the staff review of Topic IV-. In a meeting held on February 19, 1981 between the SEP Owners Group and the sta ft, further clarification of the staff's intentions regarding the Sys tema tic Evaluation Program were presented. One of the clarifications was that the NRC sta ff would continue lead topic reviews underway for plants designated as lead plant for that topic. Utilities were asked to support the lead topic review effort by responding to sta ff ques tions on a timely basis. The redirection effort both within NRC and the SEP owners Group calls for a concen trated effort aimed at completing all lead plant topics by NRC and completing dra f t SER's on topics already completed on other plants by the Owners. The subject topic (IV-2) is not a lead plant topic for Yankee. We poin ted out th is discrepancy to Mr. Russell by telephone on February 27, 1981 and sugges ted that we be relieved of the requirement to respond to Reference (b). He checked with the staff and it was so agreed. Thus our current plan is to write a draft SER on topic IV-2 once the NRC staff has completed its review of the topic on the lead plant. We trus t this in forma tion is satis factorf, however, if you have any q ues t ions pleass contact us. Very truly yours. YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY J. A.
