This confirms the discussion between Mr. D. G. Barker of your staff and our Mr. 4. A. Crossman on February 18, 1981, and your letter (ST-HL-AE-621) of Feb'uary 12, 1981, to me concerning substitution of certain ASME welding 1

identified in your ASME Safety-Related Welding 10 Week Work Plan (ST-HL-AE-590).

Specifically with regard to the substitution of ASME welding, we understand that you will continue to implement controls outlined in our letters to you on November 21, 1981, and January 5, 1981.

We have evaluated the substitution of ASME welding identified in Attachment 1 of your letter (ST-HL-AE-621) and concur with these substitutions. We request that you infonn this office sufficiently in advance of any additional plans you have to extend ASME welding so that we may evcluate your. program for controlling such work.

Region It will continue to review and evaluate the implementation of your corrective actions as.the ASME welding plan is expanded.

If your understanding of these matters is inconsistent with the above, please centact this office.
