GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY VALLECITOS NUCLEAR CENTER M
We learned recently that NRC is preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) as part of the license renewal for the General Electric Test Reactor located at Vallecitos.
The Alameda County Water District, located at Southern Alameda County, serves water to over 200,000 population in the Cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City. One of the District's major sources of supply is the Vallecitos Turnout on the South Bay Aqueduct situated about one mile south of the General Electric's Vallecitos Nuclear Center. The District purchases water from the State Water Project. The water is released at the Vallecitos Turnout into a l
conveyance system of channels, pipeline and natural streams down to the l
District's facilities in Niles for recharge into the ground water basin. We j
have serious concerns on the potential radioactive contamination of our water i
supply. Therefore, we request the inclusion in the EIS, the identification, evaluation and proposed mitigation of potential significant effects of radioactivity on surface and groundwater quality resulting fran the operation and failure of GETR.
Furthermcre, we request that Alameda County Water District be included in your notification list for announcements or other pertinent information relating to the relicensing of GETR, l
