Subject:

Quad Cities Station Units 1 and 2 Fire Protection System Safe Shutdown Capability NRC Docket Nos. 50-254/265 Reference (a): D. G. Eisenhut letter to All Power Reactor Licensees with Plants Licensed prior to January 1, 1979, dated February 20, 1981.

Dear Mr. Ippolito:

Reference (a) requested information related to Fire Protection concerning (1) associated circuits and (2) high to low pressure interfaces.

With respect to associated circuits, the detailed work effort necessary to provide the requested information is very large and has not been completed. The information will be provided by August 1, 1981.

With respect to high-to-low pressure interfaces, the only such interface at Quad Cities 1 and 2 with only motor operated valves is the Reactor Coolant System 1 Residual Heat Removal System pump suction line. The inboard pump suction isolation valve -

1(2)-1001-50 is a 20" normally closed AC motor operated valve on ESF Division I, 480v AC, MCC-18-18. The outboard isolation valve 1(2)-1001-47 is a 20" normally closed DC motor operated valve on ESF Division II, 250v DC, MCC-18. There is a reactor coolant system pressure interlock permissive of 80 psig to open these valves.

Aoditional information necessary to complete our response concerning high-to-low pressure interfaces will be submitted along with the associated circuits responses by August 1, 1981.

One (1) signed original and thirty-nine (39) copies of this transmittal are provided for your use.

Ver truly yours, ,
