MEETINGS ON EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS CRITERIA FOR METEOROLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE FACILITIES The NRC headquarters staff has developed a number of documents outlining guidance on emergency preparedness matters that are being implemented at operating plants and plants under construction. The staff will conduct meetings to discuss and clarify issues of generic nature with licensees and applicants.

These meetings were announced on March 17, 1981, in the Federal Register (46-17173) and will cover the areas of meteorology and Emergency Response Facilities.

Attendance at these meetings is encouraged and registration will be at the meeting. You and your representatives may attend any of the three meetings.

Particulars of the meeting and the agenda are given in the enclosure.

The pr mary purpose of these meetings are:

(1)toconsolidate meteorological programs relating to emergency preparedness; (2) guidance on outline en acceptable schedule and the regulatory approach for implementing the programs; (3) provide a brief description of ongoing f:RC activities pertinent to the meteorological considerations in emergency preparedness.

In a related area, the criteria document (NOREG-0696) for emergency response facilities was recently published; the staff will take the opportunity to review the final report.
