Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
On April 22, 1981, in accordance with requirements in NUREG-0737,
" Clarification of TMI Action Plan Requirements," Carolina Pouer & Light Company (CP&L) submitted a feasibility study on Item II.K.3.16, " Reduction of Challenges and Failures of Relief Valves," for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. 1 and 2.
This study was performed by the BWR Owner's Group and CP&L committed to provide its final position on this item upon completion of an evaluation of the relative benefits of the candidate modifications outlined in the study.
As requested by your staff and as discussed in the May 5, 1981 telephone conversation between J. Van Vliet (NRC) and J. Sheppard (CP&L), CP&L hereby commits to complete this evaluation and provide a position by June 30, 1981.
