CONTAINMENT PURGING AND VENTING - CONFIRMATION OF COMITMENT l

TO THE OCTOBER 23, 1979 NRC INTERIM POSITION Our October 23, 1979 letter requested you to comit to operate your facility in accordance with the staff interim position on containment purge and vent valve operation. We have reviewed your January 18, 1980 response and we find that your comitments to our interim position are acceptable. Until we complete our long-term review, your commitments are to remain in effect.- Thus, purging will be permitted only when the

reactor is at cold shutdown or during refueling.
You might receive additional staff guidance or questions as our long-term review continues. At the conclusion of this review, we will send you our Safety Evaluation and request Technical Specification changes if required.
A response to this confirmatory letter is not required.
