SU: NARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of the month the Plant was operating at full load having just completed repairs to the P-2A feedwater pump.

However, on September 1, operators noticed grease leaking out of the P-2A shaf t coupling and load was dropped to 60% to repair the coupling.

The following day as power was being raised back to full load, increased temperatures were observed on the P-2A step-up gear bearings and load was again dropped to N 65%.

Investigation revealed foreign material in the lube oil and a wiped bearing on the step-up gear unit.

On September 6, while repairs we r:. still being made on P-2A, a plan. trip occurred due to spuriour opening of the CEA rod drive MG e

set output breakers.

Investigation failed to. determine the_cause of the spurious opening of the breakers. The Plant returned ton 65%

' load the following day.

By. September 11, repairs were complete on P-2A and power escalation commenced. The Plant was back at full load on September 12.

On September 14, the second of four pressure breakdown stages

-of *)3 RCP seal cartridge failed. One stage had failed earlier.

Plant procedures require ' replacement of the seal cartridge when two -

~

or.more stages fail, and therefore, the Plant was shut down and cooled down for the seal-replacement.

By September 19, the Plant was'back on-line and load was brought ty) to N65%.. Additional. problems and leaks associated with the P-2A lube oil-system necessitated holding load at N65% until

' September 22, when repairs. were complete.

On September 23l the Plant was stabilized at full load and remained-there-for the rest ~of the conth.
