Dear Mr. Keppler:
On August 13, 1980, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc., (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). During a receipt inspection reverification of auxiliary steel performed by the Cherne Contracting Corporation (CCC) several deficiencies were identified. A number of pieces of auxiliary steel, steel used to support pipe hangers had undercut welds, undersize fillet welds and incorrect veld contour, pinholes or drawing non-compliances.
PSI is presently evaluating these deficiencies to determine their effect ,
on safe operation of the plant. PSI anticipates completion of this )
evaluation, determination of any necessary corrective action and submittal of a final report on or before December 15, 1980.
