Docket Nos.: 50-458/459 Or. E. Linn. Draper, Jr.

Vice President - Technolo9y Gulf States Utilities Company P. O. Box 29S1 Beaumont, Texas 77704

Dear Dr. Draper:

SUBJECT:

CONTINUATION OF TRANSMISSION LINE ACTIVITIES THROUGH PORT HUDSON NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK Mr. D. Sells' letter of August 16, 1979 advised Gulf States Utilities Company that we had initiated steps outlined in 36 CFR 800 to determine the effect the construction of your transmission line for River Send Station, Units 1 and 2, would have on the Port Hudson Battlefield area. The letter stated that you should not proceed wi'th the construction of that line within the historic area pending resolution of this issue in accordance with 36 CFR S00.

This is to confirth that on August 21, 1980, we advised our Office of Inspection and Enforcement and Mr. W. Reed of your organization, that this matter has been concluded to our satisfaction. The basis for this conclusion is your reply of August 21, 1980 containing commitments and representations of behalf of Gulf States Utilities Company with regard to an August 11, 1980 Memorandum of Agree-ment among the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Offices and the NRC regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

[dd
