STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Second Interim Report on the Deficiency Concernino Backfill Vaterial On f>.a rch 21, 1990, pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e), Houston Lighting & Power Company notified your of fice concerning certain non-conforming backfill material areas located around the South Texas Projeci Unit 2 power block.

In our Response to items of Non-compliance, dated July 28, 1980, a report on the

" Adequacy of Category I Structural Backfill for the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station" was submitted as Exhibit 9.

This report, which was prepared by an independent expert committee, provides information and status concerning this matter. This letter constitutes our second interim report.

The next interim report will be submitted to your of fice by December 5, 1980.
