NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-354/79-04 NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION The following is a supplemental response to NRC Inspection Report No. 79-04.
It is in reply co NRC letter of August 21, 1980, con-cerning the subject of I.D. weld buildups.
PSE&G has submitted previous correspondence concerning this subject on October 14, 1980 and January 5, 1981.
The following interim report provides current status and projected completion date for corrective actions necessary to resolve the NRC infraction concerning NDE of weld buildups for Dravo supplied piping.
3 As of February 27, 1981, 207 nondestructive examinations'have been performed with rejectable indications found in eleven (11) buildup areas.
Five (5) areas are not accessible for NDE, a reduction of one from the six (6) areas noted on our report of January 5, 1981.
The results of the examinations performed are under review by Bechtel Power Corporation's Project Engineering Department to determine if sufficient technical rationale is available to evaluate the acceptability of the five (5) inaccessible areas of weld buildup.
We expect Bechtel's evaluation on March 18, 1981, and following review of Bechtel's findings by our Engineering Department, we will report the results to you.
