Dear Senator Metzenbaum:
I am shocked to learn of the possibility that the Zimmer nuclear facility under construction in southwestern Ohio contains serious construction flaws.
According to Tom Applegate, an undercover iny(tigator who worked in the plant, I
l and Tom Devine of the Government Accounting Project in Wahington, D.C.. there are many problems with the facility:
l l
. crucial welds were shoddily performed
."non-critical" components were substituted for " critical" components
. valves rated at low pressure tolerances were placed in piping which contains much higher pressure loads
.there have already been a number of accidents regarding piping and valve defects Senator Metzenbaum, all Ohioans, whether they be for or against the use of nuclear power, should be gravely concerned with allegations that the Zimmer plant is seriously flawed.
Please push for a tho'rouah investigation of the Zimmer facility. The potential cost in hum'an lives demands an imediate and thorough investigation.
-Sincerely,
