l Vermont Yankee Reload 7 Request for Supplenental Information 490.3 Waterside Corrosion In your response (dated November 21, 1980) to question 490.1 regarding the fuel failures, you stated that the failures "were the direct result of an anomalous metallurgical condition..." and that "...an excursion j

1 in one or more manufacturing processes" was indicated (as the principal underlying cause of the problem). That explanation appears to be at variance f

with the thrust of a General Electric submittal (your reference "e" in your 11/21/80 letter), which focusses solely on the role of a " metallic incursion in the feedwater." Further discussion of this issue is required to resolve this apparent divergence of opinion regarding the principal cause and remedy for the observed failures.
