'n NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION j
WASHING TON, D. C. 20555
- ...s JAN 161987 MEMORANDUM FOR: Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing FROM:
Vincent S. Noonan, Assistant Director Materials & Qualifications Engineering Division of Engineering
SUBJECT:
ALABAMA POWER LETTER DATED JANUARY 12, 1981 ENTITLED
" JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT - UNIT 1 LOW PRESSURE (LP) TURBINE DISC INSPECTION RESULTS" The enclosed report should be sent imediately to the North Anna Appeals Board for their information. However, I would like to point out two things that should be brought to the Board's attention:
(1)
It should be explained that numbers appearing in this report regarding inspection time and stating NRC procedures were not calculated by NRC staff and have not been reviewed for their accuracy.
(2) In additior., Farley has informed us by this letter that they plan to replace the Farley turbine rotors with rotors originally intended for the Carolina Power & Light Shearon Harris plant. A request has been made by my staff to the Project Manager for Farley Unit 1 (Ed Reeves) that Alabama Power be notified that prior to startup we will need to evaluate necessary metallurgical and stress data on the Harris rotors to determine what inspection interval we will require for the rotors.
This should be done prior to startup of Farley Ur.it 1.
