Dear Mr. Grier:
The following is our response to the I.E.
Bulletin 80-24:
~l Action Items 1 and 2 of the subject Bulletin d.o not i
apply to the Oyster Creek Plant since there are no open cooling water systems present inside the containment.
Action Item 3 "For plants'with closed cooling water systems inside containment provide a summary of experiences.with cooling water system leakage into containment."
RESPONSE
The Oyster Creek Station utilizes a closed cooling water system inside the containment.
Since this system is a fixed volume system, any system leakage would beydetected-by verifica '
tion of a decrease in total volume.. Oyster Creek has had no pre-vious documented. experiences with cooling water system. leakage into the containment.
Also, the configuration of-the drywell is such 31".of water can be accumulated before'it-that.a level of only 2' 3
starts to drain into the torus - through the ten downcomer lines.
