7he Atomic Energy Commission has issued Amendment No. 2 to Operating License Ib. DPR-6 which authorizes Consumers Power Company to operate its Big Rock Point -

Nuclear Plant ("the reactor") located in' Charlevoix County, Michigan. Amendment

fio. 2, set forth below, authorizes the receipt, possession and use of up to 500 kilograms of sourre material in the form of depleted uranium dioxide (U0 ) con-2 tained in reactor fuel assemblies.

. Amendment No.1 to Operating License No. DPR-6, issued March 12, 1968, nodified-the Technical Specifications to permit power operation of the reactor with six (6) 1 high-perfonnance developmental fuel bundles -in acconiance with the application

. dated May 26, 1967 and supplements thereto. Although Operating License No. DPR-6 j

includes authority.to receive, possess and use the special nuclear m terial contained in.these high-performnce developmental fuel bundles, it does not include ~ specific authority to receive, possess and use the source material in the fonn of depleted uranium contained in some of these fuel bundles. The Conmission has evaluated the hazards' considerations involved in the receipt, possession and use of the riavelopmental fuel bundles in connection with the issuance of Amendment No.1. The issuance of

. Amentnent No. 2 involves no significant hazards considerations.

Within fifteen (15) days from the date of publication in this notice in the i

Federal Register, the applicant may file a request for a hearing, and any person whose interest nay be affected by this proceeding may file a petiton for leave to l.-
