OF MEETING ON f1 ARCH 20,1980 TO DISCUSS PROPOSED BIG ROCK POINT PLANT RISK ASSESSMENT On March 20, 1980, Harold Denton and staff including representatives of the of the Probabilistic Assessment. Branch met with representatives of Consumers Power Company and its contractor, SAI.

A list of attendees and the infonnation distributed during the meeting are enclosed, The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposal in the Consumers Power f

Company letter of February 22, 1930 to defer certain modifications related to TMI Lessons Learned and other issues until an overall Plant Risk Assessment is accomplished.to determine if these modifications would be the most cost effective way to enhance plant safety.

fir. Denton expressed enthusiasm about the proposed overall risk assessment 3

and agreed with the Consumers. Power Company suggestion of providing NRC review and feedback throughout the tenn of the study.

However, he indicated he had not yet been able to assess the impact of the proposed deferral of modifications.

He stated that NRR would evaluate the justification for 2

deferral and respond to Consumers Power Company.
