ed, Yankee Atomic Electric Company hereby requests authorization to make the following change FROPOSED CHANT : Reference is made to Section 212 of the license appli-cation, " Safety Injection System", and particularly to Drawing 646-J-644 which follows page 212:1 of the text. We propose to install in the Safety Injection Sy '
piping, two valved and blanked-off connections, one con-nection locat, in the safety injecticn pump suction header, the other s
located in the discharge header. The piping and valves to be used in maxing these connections will be of stainless steel construction.
Reascns for Chance:
In view of the possibility that reactor opera-tion at a higher power level than at present r.ay be authorized at some future time and based on preliminary analyses of reactor acci-dents at this higher power level, we feel that provision should be made now for future installation of an additional safety injection pump. The installation of the proposed blanked-off connections provides a means for connecting an additional safety injection pump to the system at any time in the future without requiring plant shutdown and cooling and depressurization of the main coolant system.
Safety Considerations:
In our opinion, the proposed change does not present cignificant hazards considerations not described or implicit in the license application, as amended to June 23, 1961, the date of iss"ance of Amendment No. 3 to License No. DFR-3, or as amended to the cate hereof, and does not affect the accident analysis set forth in Section 4 of the license application.

U.S. Atomic Energy Coccission-Proposed Change No. 20 Attn.: Div. of Lic. and Reg.
March 12, 1962 Scheduling of Chance: The change will be made at the time of the next refueling shutdown to comply with paragraph D.2.e.(3) of the Technical Specifications.
. The proposed change requires authurization by the Commission pursuant to paragraph 3.A of the license, since it involves a change in the design specifications of the reactor which are set forth in the li-cense application and~ incorporated by reference in the Technical Speci-fications.
(See paragraph B-1 of Appendix A to License No. DPR-3.)
Enclosed herewith as supporting information for the proposed change is Drawing 646-J-644, revised to show the proposed connections.
Upon authorization of this change and upon completion of the work, a superseding drawing (Revision 5) will be submitted as an amend-ment to the license application.
Incorporation of the drawing in the license application will bring the document up to date so that it will reflect the actual physical condition of the plant.
