Docket Nos. 50-327 g

Mr. H. G. Parris Manager of Power Tennessee Valley Authority 500 A Chestnut Street, Tower II Chattanooga, Tennessee 37401

Dear Mr. Parris:

SUBJECT:

SEQUOYAH UNIT 1 - INTERIM DISTRIBUTED IGNITION SYSTEM (IDIS)

In your letter of July 17, 1980, you proposed the installation of an interim distributed ignition system (IDIS) for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, Unit No. 1.

We understand you plan to have the IDIS in place and ready for operation by September 15, 1980. The associated date for E_

your submittal of a safety analysis report was August 15, 1980.

c We received your two letter reports, dated August 14, 1980, which j

constitute your safety analysis of the proposed igniter system. We found that these letter reports did not adequately address the topics that need attention in a safety analysis of IDIS. Attached is the I

request for additional information which was provided to your staff i

on an infomal basis, u

t At that time, we also requested draft reports and a draft user's manual 5

describing the CLASIX computer code (which analyzes the consequences of j

hydrogen combustion). We have noted on the attachment the estimated k

submittal dates which you telecopied to our office. We will schedule

(

our review in accordance with these dates; however, we urge you to L

submit all information as expeditiously as possible.

n Sincerely, I
