Subject:

Longitudinal Weld Defects in ASME SA-312 Type 304 Stainless Steel Pipe

Dear Sir:

We have reviewed all of the SA-312 Type 304 fusion welded stainless steel pipe specified for use in safety related system for the Seabrook Project, and have performed pipe wall thickness calculations using the 85% of the maximum allowable stress criteria defined in IE Bulletin 79-03A. Results of our review indicate that we have sufficient minimum pipe wall thickness.

W6 contacted the Commission for clarification of the IE Bulletin 79-03A criteria. We were informed that if the 85% of maximum allowable stress criteria is met, examination of the piping in the field by etching is not required.

I If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
