Dear Sirs I understand tha",'fou recently voted to elinina'te 'the Sa'turday Postal
~
delivery and'to limit cost'of living, increases for Postal retirees'to once a year.
I How much is'the elimina' tion of Sa'turday delivery suppose'to save? We must consider the anount of mail 'that will then have 'to be added to wha't is alreadysdelivered on.
Mondays. It will also nean more nail ~to be worked in all post offices on Monday.
f It just seems like it isn't going to save much noney. There are many businesses f
open on Saturday that now receive mail on Saturdays, and this move may be of in-
\\
portance to sone. This nove may also bring abou't the elimination of some carrier jobs -- as if we d3 in't have enough people without jobs now!
Limiting the cost of living increases to once a year would be a stab in the back to Postal retirees. Are we 6oin5 'to also going to limit the rise in the cost of living'to once a year? Are you willing to vote for 'that?
If so, are the causes of inflation 60in6 to abide, and if not, what do we do about it? So why did you vote this way?
'Ihere is another natter which has cose to r y attention. We live in New Castle, where there are two hospitals: Jameson Memorial and St. Francis.
St. Francis pediatric dept. is being eliminai.ed. They will have six beds available for energencies. Jameson, which has 20 beds, is not increasing the size of its L
pediat-ic unit to compensate the cut at' St'. Francis.
last winter there had been tis;s when pediatric units in bo'th hospitale were filled or nearly filled. I was informed that 'the State is doing this and that the State says that the 26 pediatri beds is all that 1.his area needs.
How, after last winter, can they
6
/ eternine this? I have three little children, and last November 'two of them were in j Jar.eson at once. In December ny daughter was in St. Francis.
My 5} nonth old baby just 60t out of St. Francis yesterday. - On May 31st we had to rush him to the ener6ency room
~
at 3:00 in the morning.
He had the croup to the point that-he had to fi ht-for 6
breath. If that happens when all 26 beds are filled, what will be done? I think (itisabsurd!
I am sure that the hospital will find a bed -- but'. to provide staff who work in pediatries round the clock? Yet itis wrong if they don't!
Another-Maiter which conceras as is 'the financial condition of the Social Secarily Administration. ITiwou18.d be Monr'to let* Socia.1 Securi'ty 'to go '
broke, but it would also be wrong to stab 'the postal workers is the-back by merging-
~
their retirenent with Social Securi'ty; If' Social Security <could not' manage the funds they had before, how are ~they 631 6 to mana6e them if they'do get postal retire =ent? For h
7 that' matter, we aren't really sure that Social Seenrity is in as bad a financial strait as they-say that they are, now are we? I urge you to vote no to any bill that,7,oold_nerge Social Security with 'the postal retirement.
I also have an idea that n1 h't' solve the problem of the build-up of krypton 6
i gas at the Tnree Mile Island facility -- or may at least contribute towards the
. T l
U solutoin.
If my idea proves benefleial, what-benefit may I personally. receive?
