NARRATIVE

REPORT Georgia Power Company Plant E.I. Hatch P.O. Box 442 Baxley, Georgia 31513 During normal steady state power operation maintenance personnel were investigating the cause of a battery ground on the 2B Station Service Batteries. This was being done by cutting off circuit breakers in DC Cabinet 2R25-5002, and checking each circuit for ground indication.

The normal DC power supply to the 2B Recirc MG Set had had been turned off. This caused transfer of DC control power to the alternate supply.

The power was then turned back on to the norraal supply, however transfer back to nonnal from alternate is a manual transfer, which has to be performed locally at the MG Set. An operator was sent to the local panel to transfer the DC supply back to normal, however before the Operator had perfonned this transfer maintenance personnel turned off the alternate supply breaker. This caused loss of DC control power which caused the AC Oil Pumps to trip which tripped the MG Set on low oil pressure.

Personne, have been cautioned to insure that normal DC power is restored before turning off the alternate supply, when checking for battery grounds in the future. The normal DC power ucs restored and the 2B Recirc MG Set was returned to service. This is a non-repetitive occurrence.
