Specs., Sections 3.11D and 4.4-IV. 2.2 Maintain QA Category I material control over charcoal filters.

SPL 10.7-5 Original FEB o 7 879 5.0 PRECAUTIONS 5.1 Personnel shall comply with all instructions given on the RWP and any radiological directions from the Health Physics Technician covering the job. 5.2 Personnel shall follow applicable safety rules according to the Connecticut Yankee Safety Manual. 5.3 Do not take ignition sources inside of fans. Comply with Reference 3.5. 5.4 Removal of any potentially contaminated taois, materials, waste from a radiologically controlled area shall be under the direct supervision of IIcalth Physics personnel. 5.5 Do not close CAR fan access doors while personnel are inside enclosure. 6.0 PROCEDURE 6.1 Review Precautions and Prerequisites and establish housekeeping per attached requirements. 6.2 Obtain filters and spray nozzles described on attached material list. 6.3 Remove blanks and respective gaskets from the charcoal filter banks for CAR fans 1, 2, and 3. See References 3.1 and 3.2. NOTE: Maintain operability of enough fans to maintain proper containment air contamination levels. 6.4 Inspect spray nozzle lines on both sides of blanked filter space. Remove nozzle fitting plugs as necessary to form spray pattern shown in Reference 3.2', Plan View LL. 6'5 Visually inspect unplugged fittings for signs of clogging or large particles which could clog nozzles. Cican as necessary. Job Supervisor verify inspections performed on CYQC Inspection Plan (Attached). 6.6 Replace plugs with 1/4 KS nozzles as necessary to comply with with spray pattern of reference 3.2, Flan View LL. Orient nozzles as shown on same view. Note: If tape sealant is on threads, maintain at least 1/16" bare thread at nozzle inlet to avoid extruding tape sealant into nozzle inlet. Job Supervisor or CYQA verify installation per reference 3.2, Plan View LL, on CYQC Inspection Plan. 6.7 Inpsect old neoprene filter flance gaskets for cracks or brittleness. Replace with 3/16" or 1/4" thick neoprene gaskets per reference 3.2 as necessary. Denote which ones are replaced on Attachment I. Page 2 of 10

Reject any which appear to have be. contaminated by acid or that may be bent to the 1 I extent o. preventing a good seal at the filter flange. 6.9 Install new charcoal filters in previously blanked spaces per Reference 3.2. Etch each filter flange face with the date of installation. Denote location on Attachment I by crossing out location and denoting installation date. Job Supervisor or CYQA verify this has been performed on attached CYQC Inspection Plan. 6.10 Inpsect the exposed parts of the existing installed filters for signs of corrosion. If some are found tc be obviously corroded or contaminated by a caustic fluid, determine source of problem and repair leaks as necessary. Replace damaged filters. Etch these with the date of installation and change gaskets as necessary. Denote which were changed on Attachment I. Job Supervisor or CYQA verify completion of this step on CYQC Inspection Plan. 6.11 Complete sign-off verification of housekeeping requirements attached. 6.12 Retesting will be performed by Nuclear Containment Services in accordance with Reference 3.6. CAR fans may be operated prior to this retest. Note that the reactor criticality status is limited as denoted in Section 2.0 of this procedure. 6.13 Perform the !bove for CAR fans 1, 2, and 3. 6.14 Spot check the charcoal filter spray nozzles in CAR Fan #4 l where blanks previously existed. Determine if more nozzles are needed to form spray pattern of Reference 3.2, Plan View LL. Job Supervisor or CYQA verify that this step was performed on attached CYQC Inspection Plai.. 6.15 Add 1/4 K5 nozzles as performed in the above steps as necessary to achieve spray nozzle pattern per reference.3.2, Plan View LL. Job Supervisor or CYQA provide verification of step performance and inspection as required in the applicable steps. 6.16 Replace additional charcoal filters as dictated by retest results, following the above procedure, as applicable to replacement of existing filters.
