Dear Director:
Notice for public comment on the " Draft Programmatic Impact Statement On The Decontamination And Disposal of Radioactive Wastes Resulting From The March 28, 1979 Accident At Three Mile Island Unit 2" (NUREG - 0683) was given on August 14, 1980.
It has taken the Nuclear Regulatory Com-mission Staff eight months to prepare this document.
We consider it essential that the public have adequate time to respond to this document.
The proposed clean-up process will extend over a five to seven year period and affect thousands of citizens in the TEI area.
The psychological and physical well-being of these people will depend on a successful, accident proof clean-up operation.
In view of the Jength
.of time it takes for copies to be obtained and reviewed, and recognizing that such a clean-up effort has never before been attempted, our organiza-tion requests that the period of public comment be extended from forty-five days to a minimum of ninety days.
We also request public hearings on the report to be held in Middletown, Harrisburg, Lancaster and York.
The Nuclear Infromation and Resource Service is a non-profit organizc-tion which operates as a national clearinghouse for information on issues dealing with nuclear power.
W6 would like a response from you on these matters.
Sincerely,
?
