McGuire Nuc ear-Station, Unit 1 Docket No.

-369

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response to your letter of January 27, 1981 which transmitted IE Bulletin 81-01, a schedule for an inspection program coverin'g all of the mechanical

~

snubbers at Unit 1 of the McGuire Nuclecr Station has been completed.

All of the mechanical snubbers at McGuire were manufactured by the Pacific Scientific Company. All but four mechanical snubbers will be visually examined and stroke tested over their full range prior to initial criticality.

Due to recent hangar modifications there are four snubbers which cannot be moved at this time. These four snubbers will be observed during heat-up to assure that thermal compensation is taking place. This will' assure that the snubbers are operable and that no damage was incurred during installation and subsequent construction. A madification request Lss been initiated which when

. completed will allow these snubbers to be removed for subsequent required testing. The testing will be completed by April 2, 1981 and the results will be provided by June 1, 1981.

n Very truly yours,/
