Dear Mr. Ferguson:

SUBJECT:

LOW PRESSURE TURBINE DISC INSPECTION FOR THE NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 1 (NA-1)

We have completed our evaluation of the Low Pressure (LP) turbine rotor inspection and the Westinghouse calculations for turbine rotor inspection intervals as provided in your letter dated February 12, 1981.

Specifically, our evaluation includes the inspection data for the TMI-2 rotor No. 2 which you plan to use as a replacement for the NA-1 LP rotor No. 2, and the NA-1 LP rotor No. 1.

Further we have saviewed and analyzed the Westinghouse calculations for the reinspr-tion intervals for the NA-1 LP rotor No.1 and the TMI-2 rotor No. 2.

Based on our evaluation and independent calculations, we conclude that the NA-1 LP rotor No. 1 and the TMI-2 LP rotor No. 2 can be safely operated until the next scheduled NA-1 refueling outage and that the NA-1 turbine discs be reinspected at that time.

Our safety evaluation report regarding this matter is enclosed.

Sincerely, obert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing
