Dear Mr. Seidle:
In December,1980, we received a letter from General Electric Co. (GE) which advised us that failures had been experienced with certain lexan coil spools supplied with their HFA type relays.
Mr. ECreel advised Mr. WACrossman of this letter on December 23, 1980.
On January 15, Information Notice 81-01 was issued to advise the indust:y of this problem.
On February 4, Mr. ECreel advised Mr. Crossman that an investigation had been initiated to determine if any of the potentially defective coils were installed in safety-related relays at Wolf Creek, and that several of the potentially defective coils had been found.
At this time an inspection to determine if the coils are cracked is not planned because we will replace the relays as recommmended by GE, regard-less of the present condition of the coils.
Our schedule for replacing the coils will be dependent upon the availability of replacement relays from GE.
Please advise if you need additional information.
Yours very truly, 8108240!3%
