Dear Mr. Grier:
In accordance with the reporting requirements of Connecticut Yankee Technical Specifications, Section 6.9.2.a the following preliminary report 77-20/IP is hereby submitted.
In accordance with Section 4.9 of Connecticut Yankee Techni al Specifica-tions, the main steam isolation valves are tested each quar.er for move-ment of the valve disc through a distance of approximately one and one-half inches.
During the surveillance test conducted September 16, 1977 the #1 main steam isolation valve cycled only after several attempts were made to move the valve in the test po.sition. The other three main steam isolation valves were tested satisfactorily.
The packing gland on the #1 valve was adjusted followed by a successful retest.
A written follow-up report will be submitted within two weeks.
