Dear Sir:
Please refer to Transamerica Delaval's letter of September 19, 1980.
In this letter a report of a potential defect in a component of the DSRV standby diesel generator was reported, as required by 10CFR21.
Due to site conditions the schedule for inspection which we recommend-ed in the September 19 letter has not been =et.
All of the sites are in various stages of construction which _akes it impractical to open up the engines for this inspection.
At every site we will have Service Engineers present for a considerable time witnessing all the final detailed installation and pre-start check-ing.
During this period the inspeciton vill be completed. Any replace-cent parts required will.be installed before any units are started. We have a written procedure, SIM No. 349, detailing the link rod inspection procedure.
This procedure will be cade part of the pre-start procedure for all the sites involved.
At the. ne site which is in an operating condition (Southern California Edison, San Onofre) the inspection was perforced September 20 and September 22.
The engines were found to be satisfactory.
A copy of Southern California Edision's letter ef October 9, 1980 report-ing this inspection is attached.
Sihdbrely, 1
