We have received your application dated October 1,1980, for authorization to possess and use in-core detectors by December 1,1980, and for the receipt, possession, storage, inspection and transportation of special nuciear and by-product material by January 1,1981.
Conversations with members of your staff and with the NRC's project manager for the. Grand Gulf Nuclear Station indicate that you will not be ready to receive this material before the middle of April 1981.
As a general rule, we would appreciate having the application for review as far in advance as possible, preferably no later than six months prior to the scheduled receipt of fuel, so that we can fit it into our schedule. However, we recognize that sometimes this may be impossible. Accordingly, we can act on shorter notice, if necessary, to meet your requirements.
I have discussed a proposed review schedule with your Mr. Charles Tyrone, Manager Nuclear Fuels, on November 3,1980.
He agreed to the following schedule:
Initial Review November 17, 1980 Request Additional Information December 8,1980 Applicant Response January 9,1981 Final Review February 9, 1981 Prepare SER and Regulatory Decision March 2,1981 Issue Decision March 23, 1981 If there are any questions, please feel free to call.
