e Operations Summary August 1980 The following summary describes the significant operational activities during the reporting period. In support of this summary, a chronological log of significant events is included in this repo-t.

There were twenty-four Licensee Event Reports and one Special Report 80-3, oit ECCS injection to RCS.

There were three scrams during August of which two were manual scrams.

At the end of August, the reactor was in mode 5. Modification and mainte-nance are being. performed while the plant awaits NRC approval for a full power license.

Significant Operational' Events 4

Date Time Event 8/01/80 0455 RCS in mode 4 at 200 F to 360 psig.

8/02/80 2203 Completed pulling shutdown banks A, B, C, D rods.

'8/05/80 1336 RCS in mode 3.

I 8/06/80 1655 Reactor was critical.

8/06/80 1701 Reagtor was manually scramed at 5.0 x 10 amps because the rods failed to move in either manual or bank select.

8/07/80 0019 Started pulling the shutdown banks.

8/07/80 0116 Reactor was critical.

8/12/80 -0301 Reactor tripped on low steam generator

  1. 2 level.

8/12/80 1643 Started pulling the shutdown banks.

8/12/80 2225 Reactor was critical.

8/14/80 0336 Reactor was manually scrammed because of a continuous rod withdrawal.

8/14/80 0623 RCS was in mode 3.

8/15/80 0950 RCS was in mode 5. '

. Plant Maintenance Summary The following significant maintenance items were completed during the' month of August:

1. Replaced the battery for diesel generator IA-A.

'2. Installed safety injection pump 2A-A. This pump had been the 1A-A SI pump which was damaged. Parts were not available immediately for rebuilding the IA-A pump and the 2A-A pump was used instead.

3. The turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump electronic governor controls were relocated.

4.

Additional repairs were made to the unit I condenser steam dump header.

1 Outage Maintenance Summary Continued to inspect pipe-hangers on safety related ststems inside and outside' containment in 'accordance with a conformation of action letter from NRC and IE bulletin 79-14. ~

Installed a. hydrogen igniter system in the unit I containment.

Began _ the new installation and relocation of sprinkler heads for the fire protection system in the auxiliary and control buildings.
