Dear Mr. Denton:

Item II.F.2 of NUREG 0737 requests that detailed information regarding proposed inadequate core cooling instrumentation be submitted to the NRC for review. A description of the inadequate core cooling instrumentation for McGuire Nuclear Station has been submitted to the NRC in the document

" Duke Power Company, McGuire Nuclear Station, Response to TMI Concerns."

As stated in that dscument Duke will install the Westinghouse designed reactor vessel level measurement system in McGuire Unit 1 in order to supple-ment the existing McGuire inadequate core cooling instrumentation.

Enclosed are both proprietary and non-proprietary descriptions of this reactor vessel level system.

Also enclosed is one copy of Application for withholding CAW-80-77 (non-proprietary).

As this submittal contains information proprietary to Westinghouse Electric Corporation, it is supported by an affidavit signed by Westinghouse, the owners of the information. The affidavit sets forth the basis on which the information may be withheld from public disclosure by the Commission and addresses with specificity the considerations listed in paragraph (b)(4) of h*hR \\.,*

Section 2.790 of the Commission's regulations.

Corres-pondence with respect to the proprietary aspects of this application for withholding or the supporting Westinghouse affidavit should reference CAW-80-77 and should be addressed to R. A. Wiesemann, Manager, Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, P. O. Box 355, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230.
