Dear Mr. Jones:

y We have reviewed your January 27, 1981 letter, which was subm1 response to NRC letters dated November 17 and 24, 1980, related to remaining open items in the Fort Calhoun Station's fire protection program.

We have found that the proposed method of r'ushing the sprinkler systems adequately resolves our concerns and is a ceptable.

Therefore, the only remaining issue for the fire protection program at the Fort Calhoun Station is the alternate shutdown design.

Several concerns of the safe shutdown capabilities were resolved with members of your staff and the NRC fire protection reviewers during a conference telephone call on January 30, 1981. Upon completion of our review of this issue, we will provide OPPD with an SER containing our findings of the accen; ability of your proposed sysn ms.

If you have anv Westions on this subject, please contact your NRC Project Manager.

Sincerely,

']
