SUBJECT:

SEQUOYAH HYDROGEN CONTROL SYSTEM Attached are copies of Supplement No. 4 to ti e Safety Evaluation Report that updates our evaluation on hydrogen control r.'esures for the Secuoyah Nuclear plant, Unit No. 1.

This report is in compliance with the license condition that states:

"Dy January 31, 1981, TVA shall by testing an analysis to the satisfaction of the NRC staff that an interim hydrogen control will provide with reason-able assurance protection against breach of containrent in the event that a substantial quantity of hydrogen is generated."

We conclude that the operation of the Sequoyan igniter system for an interim period of one year is appropriate. The ACRS on its report dated January 13, 1981 concurs with the staff recomunendation to allos the operation of the igniter system.

The results of our findings, as reported in Supplement No. 4, will be fully discussed at our next meeting on Sequoyah.
