Subject:
Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment
Dear Sir:
Your letter, Reference (b), transmitted the preliminary results of your review of environmental qualification of safety-related electrical equipment at the Yankee Rowe plant.
Appendices B and C of your letter provide a list of the equipment and a preliminary listing of deficiencies identified by your review.
We have reviewed each of the identified deficiencies listed in Appendix B and believe we understand the additional information and/or corrective actions required for eacn item.
The existing information on the single item which is being replaced and the single item being relocated during our next refueling outage, presently scheduled for May,1981, has been analyzed to assure confidence that these items will perform their required function under anticipated environmental conditions or that they are backed up by a different component.
For those items with potential deficiencies in qualification information (QI) or qualification methods (QM), the egisting information has been reviewed and additional analyses have been performed to address these concerns. These analyses and additional information which has become available have re-assured our confidence that the equipment will operate in its environment.
For those items which are presently being qualification tested, such as some TMI items and the incore thermocouples, when the results are available Yankee will determine in a timely manner whether the results satisfy qualification test requirements.
Each item in Appendix C which is considered to have a material aging deficiency has had a detailed materials aging analysis performed by an outside test laboratory.
The results of the analysis indicates that long-term operation of this equipment is assured.
