v.h g-Re: McGuire Nuclear Station A'J Docket Nos. 50-369, 50--370 N3 8'
Dear Mr. Denton:
During the NRC Staff's fire protection review of McGuire, a deficiency was noted by the reviewer in the control room area regarding the fire rating of an interior wall.
(See Mr. R. L. Baer's letter of June 14, 1978 - Item 26(b).)
After much discussion on this item with the NRC Staff, Duke committed to pro-vide a 1 1/2 hour ceiling and Class C doors for these areas. The Class C doors have been installed, however, it has been determined that it would require major structural modifications to upgrade the ceilings within these interior rooms to attain a 1 1/2 hour rating.
As an alternative, Duke has purchased Class 350 file cabinets and flammable liquid storage cabinets for use within these rooms (the flammable liquid storage cabinets will be used as bookcases). With the addition of this fire-rated furniture in these rooms, we believe that the intent of our original commitment will be met, i.e. reduced exposure of the control room to fire.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please advise.
l V y truly yours,'
\\
