This confinns the discussion between Mr. Johnny Blau of your staff and our Mr. R. E. Hall on January 2,1981, and your letters (ST-HL-AE-590) of December 17, 1980, and (ST-HL-AE-593) of December 30, 1980, to me concerning the ASME Safety-Related Welding 10 Week Work Plan and the resumption of safety-related AWS welding, respectively.
With regard to the 10 Week Work Plan for safety-related ASME welding as shown in Attachment 1 of your December 17 letter, we understand that:
1.
Based on the January 2, 1981, discussion between Mr. Blau and Mr. Hall, the 10 Week Work Plan will commence on January 5,1981.
2.
This plan will include welding of piping, hangers and supports of both carbon and stainless steel materials for the fourteen new line items shown in Attachment 1.
3.
This plan also includes the continuation of previously authorized welding on the Component Cooling System, temporary attachments,
fabrication, and re-examination of ASME welds and ECW system welds.
We haYe evaluated the present ASME welding work and concur with your plan to expand the ASME welding and related activities as set forth in Attachment 1 of your letter (ST-HL aE-590). We request that you inform this office sufficiently in advance of any plans that you have to extend ASME welding beyond that identified or of any plans to accelerate the above 10 Wesk Work Plan so that we may evaluate your program for controlling such work.

Company January 5,1981 With regard to the resumption of AWS welding on a nor:r.al production basis, as requested in your letter (ST-HL-AE-593), we understand this to be a total resurnption of all AWS welding and related activities. We have eval-uated the present AWS welding work and concur with your plans to resume nomal production of AWS welding and related activities as set forth in your letter (ST-HL-AE-593).
Region IV will continue to review and evaluate the implementation of your corrective actions as the ASME welding plan is expanded and nomal pro-duction of AWS welding is resumed as approved above.
If your understanding of these matters is inconsistent with the above, please contact this office immediately.
